The benchmark BSE Sensex was down 43 points or 0.14 percent at 31,247 while the broader Nifty index was down 28 points or 0.29 percent at 9,601. It swung 267.24 points during the session. The decline in both these indices was higher than the Sensex's decline in percentage terms. Meanwhile, Power Grid was the top gainer in Nifty, up 1.82 per cent followed by Vedanta, Aurobindo Pharma, Sun Pharma and ICICI Bank , which rose as much as 1.11 per cent. (more...)

The NHC said thunderstorm activity associated with the weather system "continues to show signs of organization, and additional development is likely during the next day or so". There is also another disturbance in the Atlantic Ocean the NHC is keeping tabs on. A third gravitational wave has been detected by the Laser Interferometer Gravitational-wave Observatory ( LIGO ) after the merging of two black holes galaxy three billion light-years away, scientists say. Stuart Shapiro, who works on computer simulations of gravitational waves at the University of IL at Urbana-Champaign, agrees. Google also revealed today that it's working on standalone VR hardware that won't require a phone or computer to use. Google is working on standalone headsets with Lenovo Group Ltd. Google's Daydream platform offers reasonably sophisticated VR experiences with gyroscopic orientation tracking and a three-axis motion controller, but Daydream View doesn't offer a spatial tracking or spacial awareness system of any kind. The new valuation of more than US$50 billion would make Didi China's second-most valuable privately owned firm. The final mission , according to NASA , involves a "daring" series of dives (22 in total) between Saturn and its icy rings, and ends with Cassini plunging into Saturn's atmosphere in its final orbit in September. Scientists also hope to have more data regarding Saturn's atmosphere and its interior structure. They're aiming to make 22 ring dives in all - before the mission concludes (hence the " grand finale " moniker). (more...)

The NES Classic Edition was a commercial failure. Nintendo may soon follow up its popular NES Classic with another nostalgic mini-gaming console: SNES Classic. It's something I genuinely hope will happen, especially given that the Super Nintendo wasn't officially released here in South Africa. If you're sick of bad ads on websites then Google's Chrome browser is apparently set to help you out with a report from the Wall Street Journal saying that Google is looking into building an ad-blocker into the browser. As a result, advertising on Google's search engine and some of the other ads it powers are allowed to pass through Adblock Plus's filters.
