Cardinals RB David Johnson out for 2-3 months

David Johnson RB

The Arizona Cardinals got the worst news they could have gotten with the wrist injury running back David Johnson suffered.

The Cardinals will place Johnson on injured reserve, according to Schefter. On Sunday night, ESPN's Chris Mortensen reported that the MRI results on Monday would determine whether he'd be out for a few weeks or closer to half the season.

Johnson's injury likely means the Cardinals will be even more reliant on Palmer to win with his arm, which should benefit San Francisco in their matchups against the 38-year-old quarterback.

Kerwynn Williams and Andre Ellington are the primary running backs in Johnson's absence.

In other injury news, Arians announced that starting left tackle D.J. Humphries has an MCL sprain and will miss 1-2 weeks. He must spend at least eight weeks on IR, which at the earliest would allow a return to the field November 7. The team could also kick the tires on re-signing veteran back Chris Johnson, who was among the Cardinals' final cuts following the conclusion of the preseason.

Modi, Abe to kick-start India's bullet train project
The visit will begin in the afternoon with an 8-km road show by Modi and Abe, with their cavalcade heading for Sabarmati Ashram. In the evening both the prime ministers will pay a visit to iconic Sidi Saiyyed Mosque present at the eastern part of the city.

Before getting injured Sunday, Johnson was on his way to having a nice game.

And while it's not clear how long he will be out, Cardinals head coach Bruce Arians has noted that Johnson's injury is similar to that of fellow running back T.J. Logan.

Johnson was hurt while making a 24-yard reception.

Johnson is in his third NFL season after being drafted out of Northern Iowa by Arizona in the third round of the 2015 NFL Draft. He accounted for 36.1 percent of Arizona's yards past year and 41.7 percent of its offensive touchdowns. Receiver Tanner Gentry and linebacker Jonathan Anderson were promoted from the practice squad.

We will update this post when official word of Johnson's status comes, but for now it sounds as though the star back will miss significant time this season. Johnson set an National Football League record last season with 100 yards from scrimmage in each of the first 15 games of a season.
