AIPSN Condemns the Murder of Gauri Lankesh

Gauri Lankesh

On his official Twitter account, the Congress vice-president said that anybody who speaks against RSS/BJP is attacked and even killed. Gauri Lankesh lives on in our hearts.

Stating that the murder of the senior journalist was an "organised crime", the chief minister also instructed the police to identify and give protection to free thinkers and those involved in the Left movement.

Along with thousands of their colleagues across India, the writers and intellectuals of Goa have expressed widespread shock, revulsion and anger over the assassination of Gauri Lankesh, the Bengaluru-based veteran journalist, activist, and long-time editor of the Kannada tabloid, Gauri Lankesh Patrike. "It is the responsibility of the Karnataka government to maintain law and order".

He stressed that the CBI should conduct the probe, but also said he was convinced that the ongoing investigation had made progress, as Karnataka Chief Minister Siddaramiah had told him. She was shot dead on Tuesday by unidentified gunmen outside her residence in Bengaluru.

Union minister Ananth Kumar said the state government should probe the murder and arrest the killers.

The Mumbai Press Club, in alliance with other media organisations, held a candle-light vigil seeking justice for Lankesh. After parking her auto outside the gate and walking to the main entrance of her home the assailants fired at least seven rounds, police said.

The press freedom group says 25 journalists have died in India since 2010. Now, Lankesh has also met her end in nearly exactly the same circumstances.
