Two killed in Finland knife attack

Finnish police shoot man who stabs several people in Turku

It's worth noting that Finland has given residency permits to over 60,000 refugees in the last 12 months, though the attacker's identity is not known at this time.

According to early reports, several people have been injured by the attack, and police have warned people to stay away from the city centre. Additional patrols will be deployed and surveillance boosted across Finland, police said.

Police shot a suspect in the thigh minutes after the attack at another square nearby, arresting him and confiscating his knife.

Police arrested a man suspected of the stabbing in the city of Turku on Friday.

Police did not give any information on the two people killed or the conditions of those wounded in downtown Turku, 170 kilometers (106 miles) west of Helsinki, the capital.

Witness Laura Laine said she was alerted by hearing a young woman screaming loudly at the corner of the market square.

Not taking any chances, Guam issues guidelines on surviving a nuclear attack
North Korea's latest missile test was its 13 (and tenth successful one) since US President Donald Trump assumed office in January. On Friday, the president said that USA military solutions against North Korea are now "locked and loaded".

"We are getting messages from family and friends that there were people with knives", he said. "He was waving it in the air. We understood he had stabbed someone", she told Finnish broadcaster YLE.

Security has been increased at Helsinki airport and train stations in the region in the wake of the attack. The National Bureau of Investigation had taken over the probe from the Turku police department, and the security intelligence police Supo are also involved in the investigation.

Interior Minister Paula Risikko said police would be more visible in public places.

Prime Minister Juha Sipila said the government was closely monitoring the ongoing police operation and holding an emergency meeting later Friday.

The severity of injuries of other people involved in the attack is not now known. "I see a guy with a huge, big knife stabbing a female and stabbing a male", Afzali said.

An Yle reporter at the scene says that the body on the ground at Puutori had been covered.
