Australian commentators condemn Julie Bishop for 'attacking' relationship with New Zealand

That is where people would expect my focus to be.

"New Zealand law has made every Australian citizen incapable of being elected to, or serving in, the Australian Parliament".

With NZ heading to an election in September, Ms Bishop told reporters it would now be "very hard to build trust" with an NZ Labour government.

REPORTER: Have you contacted anyone in the New Zealand government or the High Commission about this?

"I think there will be quite an appetite for amending the section, after what has been happening".

"Australian domestic politics is for them, not for us, and that is the line I maintain".

"This will pass.cooler heads now will get the issues resolved".

Australian Foreign Minister Julie Bishop and New Zealand Labour leader Jacinda Ardern are trading blows over the origins of the information about Mr Joyce's citizenship, and other politicians here have waded into the political point-scoring, too.

"Not at all", she said.

"The leader of the National Party, the Deputy Prime Minister, is qualified to sit in this House and the High Court will so hold", he said.

Asked by host Kieran Gilbert if she accepted Ardern's comments and would now move on, Bishop said "I take her at her word".

Taylor Swift expected to testify against alleged groper in court
Once the meet-and-greet was over, she says she alerted her mother as well as others on her team about what had allegedly happened. Swift plans to donate any winnings from the trial to a charity that fights against, and protects women from, sexual assault.

"I greatly value New Zealand's relationship with the Australian government", she said in a statement.

'That just beggars belief, ' Ms Bishop said.

The revelation about Joyce's roots came to light after New Zealand's opposition Labour Party member Chris Hipkins raised the matter in parliament there.

Ms. Bishop specifically pointed a finger at Bill Shorten, the leader of Australia's Labor Party, saying he used New Zealand's Labour Party to "raise questions in a foreign parliament deliberately created to undermine confidence in the Australian government".

Prime Minister Bill English said he was informed about Mr Joyce's case late last week and according to local law, he is a New Zealand citizen.

New Zealand's internal affairs minister says questions from journalists, not an MP, were the trigger for the citizen check on Barnaby Joyce, as the incident threatens to harm cross-Tasman relations.

He told parliament on Monday morning he had discovered he was a New Zealand citizen, potentially throwing his position in parliament into jeopardy.

Her cabinet minister Christopher Pyne accused the Labor opposition of stooping to new lows.

"He asked the questions without knowing how that might be used and has made it very clear, in hindsight, had he known how it would be used, he would not have asked the questions". In 2015, he threatened to have the dogs euthanized unless they were sent back to the U.S. The dogs were in violation Australia's biosecurity laws, but it was an intense approach nonetheless.

"The story became public as a result of media inquiries".
