It's a single-elimination bracket format with three total rounds and each batter has four minutes per round.

In the new format, each competitor goes for four minutes, attempting to hit as many home runs as possible without having to worry about outs or waiting for the ideal pitch.

Moustakas also enters the derby on a hot streak, with 12 of his 25 home runs coming since the calendar flipped to June.

Should a round be tied, a 60-second tiebreaker is held with no added time available.

Judge, the second seed, faces another Marlin in the first round, first baseman Justin Bour (20 homers). Born in Lakeland, which is about 240 miles northwest of Miami, Sale is 11-4 with a 2.75 ERA and a major league-leading 178 strikeouts in 127 2/3 innings. The other two to do it also were in the AL: Fred Lynn of the Red Sox in 1975 and Ichiro Suzuki of the Mariners in 2001. That record was previously set by one Joe DiMaggio back in 1936. Judge will open the derby by taking on Miami's Justin Bour. If he can send a lot of drives over the wall in left-center (386 feet), this tournament could serve as a national coming out party where a big audience can take in his power for the first time.

Should Judge advance, he would face either No. 3 seed Cody Bellinger (+500) of the Dodgers or No. 6 Charlie Blackmon (+2000) of the Rockies in the semifinals. Bellinger is third in the NL in home runs right now with 25 through 70 games. He did it in 51 games.

Stanton and the rest of the Marlins flew back to Miami early Monday after completing a sweep of the Giants in San Francisco on Sunday.

Stanton received the No. 1 seed after winning the event during All-Star week previous year in San Diego. Stanton's average home run distance on the night was 446 feet and the 10 longest of that Derby all came off his bat.
