Two civilians killed in Indian forces' firing across LoC

Protests had erupted after the troops of Indian Central Reserve Police Force thrashed a driver Firdous Ahmad on Monday morning

They said the deceased were identified as Mohammad Shoukat, employed in Territorial Army and his wife Safia Bi, residents of Karmara.

Sources said that the three persons including two women were killed as a result of Indian firing and shelling.

The couple's three daughters, Zaida Kouser (6), Robina Kouser (12) and Nazia Bi, and another person were injured.

35-year-old army jawan Showkat, who had come on a leave to spend time with family, and his 3-year-old wife Safiya were killed after sustaining critical splinter injuries of mortar shell, the official said. Deputy high commissioner J P Singh was summoned by Pakistan' Ministry of Foreign Affairs over the killing of two of their nationals along the LoC, allegedly in firing by Indian troops.

Pakistan army responded to Indian firing effectively, the ISPR added in a statement.

While the heavy fire has claimed the lives of two civilians, 2 children were also injured amidst the shelling from the other side of the border.
