HR 3003 seeks to eliminate federal funds from the Department of Justice and National Security to sanctuary jurisdictions "that do not comply with federal arrest warrants", Univisión reported.

"I'm glad my colleagues joined me in taking bold action to say that we will no longer tolerate the circumvention of our immigration laws, and I'm very grateful we've finally got an administration in the White House that's willing to work with us - not against us - in this important fight", Ratcliffe said.

"MAKE AMERICA SAFE AGAIN!" was Trump's tweet on the bills' passage - and he's quite right.

Kate's Law is named in memory of 32-year-old Kate Steinle, who was fatally shot in San Francisco two years ago.

Kate's Law increases penalties for undocumented immigrants who return to the United States after having been deported earlier.

As Stephen Dinan of the Washington Times noted this week, "federal judges remain major stumbling blocks to (Trump's) aggressive immigration plans, with courts from California to MI and Atlanta limiting his crackdown on sanctuary cities and stopping him from deporting illegal immigrants he has targeted for removal".

In an op-ed this week pushing for both bills, Sessions doubled down on his condemnation of sanctuary cities.

The bill is the second of two immigration measures the House passed Thursday as it moves to crack down on illegal immigration, a key priority for President Donald Trump. It would also establish new probable cause standards allowing federal authorities to more easily detain undocumented immigrants held in local jails. It also withholds certain federal grants from jurisdictions that violate federal law by prohibiting their officers from communicating with ICE.

Turkey says it retaliated to 'harassing' YPG fire in northern Syria
Reports stated that the letter pledges that the USA will take back the weapons supplied once the joint operation is over. Mattis said the USA has made it clear all along that, "we're going to equip them for the fight.

One bill would strip federal dollars from self-proclaimed "sanctuary" cities that shield residents from federal immigration authorities, while a separate measure would stiffen punishments for people who re-enter the US illegally.

Immigration: A battle is brewing between the federal government's right to enforce USA immigration laws and some cities' and blue states' desire to provide "sanctuary" for illegal immigrants in the U.S.

During a speech at the Energy Department on Thursday, Trump said that if the bills were sent to his desk, he would "give them the fastest approval, the fastest signature, that you have ever seen".

The bills still need to be approved by the Senate, where many analysts believe both will be defeated. As such, they proposed legislation to impose harsher sentences on undocumented immigrants who have already been convicted of crimes.

Trump has put an emphasis on rooting out criminal immigrants from the USA since he's been in office, ramping up immigration enforcement capabilities under two executive orders, though the enforcement has made all undocumented immigrants vulnerable to action. Three Democrats voted for the bill, and seven Republicans voted against it.

"By flagrantly disregarding the rule of law, sanctuary cities are putting lives at risk, and we can not tolerate that", Ryan said.

It was a win for Trump, who made public statements of support for the bills and had his attorney general and homeland security secretary do the same, including by meeting with family members of people who had been killed by undocumented immigrants.
