Alex Jones interview draws 3.5 million viewers

Megyn Kelly Alex Jones

And if that was the goal of the segment seen Sunday night on NBC, then mission accomplished, Megyn.

SUNDAY NIGHT WITH MEGYN KELLY (0.5/3 in 18-49, 0.7 in 25-54, 3.5 million viewers overall from 7-8 p.m. ET) delivered bigger audiences than CBS' "60 Minutes" encore in adults 18-49 (666,000 viewers vs. 618,000, +8%) and adults 25-54 (888,000 vs. 864,000, +3%).

Jones said at one point that he was playing "devil's advocate" in denying the mass shooting.

"Ninety-five percent of what we cover is looking at a news article and then, you know, discussing it", Jones said to her at one point.

Kelly drew 6.2 million viewers to her interview of Vladimir Putin during her show's June 4 debut.

When Jones tried to change the subject to foreign wars, Kelly interrupted him: "That's a dodge".

During the interview, Jones never gave a direct answer when the 46-year-old TV journalist pressed him to admit he was wrong in his claim about the shootings.

Oil stockpile draws will accelerate in the second half of 2017, according to BP Plc Chief Economist Spencer Dale. Output at major American shale fields will reach a record in July, according to the EIA .

Connecticut's NBC affiliate did not air Sunday's report and lawyers representing 12 people who lost loved ones at Sandy Hook urged NBC News officials not to air the interview. There were still many on both sides of the aisle who refused to watch the interview or saw the interview itself as reckless, but others praised Kelly for exposing Jones to the world.

Prior to the interview, Kelly released a statement on Twitter June 13 explaining the importance of airing her conversation with Jones.

Kelly, now with NBC, told A.P. she respected Sandy Hook Promise's decision to drop her from a Wednesday event in Washington, but was disappointed.

Of course, what Kelly was clearly demonstrating was that there is no vetting process.

Instead, the public got wind of Kelly's intention to interview this guy and figured she would be granting him an opportunity to issues his outrageous opinions unchallenged.

"I think my influence on Trump is way, way lower than what MSM (mainstream media) has said", he commented, saying he and the president were "friendly", but not friends. But even a masterclass in dress-down interviews wouldn't undo the damage already done by NBC News and Kelly.

HARTFORD, Conn. (AP) — The publicity and uproar in the days before Sunday's broadcast of Megyn Kelly's interview with conspiracy theorist Alex Jones didn't translate into ratings.
