Trump Cheerleaders Turn on Special Counsel Mueller

Robert Mueller was appointed by the Justice Department as special counsel overseeing the investigation into Russian interference in the 2016 United States elections

Rosenstein said, "This may well be within the scope of the Special Counsel's investigation so I'm limited in what I can say about it", referring to special counsel Robert Mueller's investigation of Russia's possible ties to the Trump campaign and their effect on November's election.

Deputy Attorney General Rod Rosenstein talks to an aide on Capitol Hill on Tuesday while testifying before Congress. Rosenstein said he has seen no evidence of good cause to fire the special prosecutor overseeing the Russian Federation investigation. So that is what I would do.

Honestly, I really hope he does try to fire him.

Ruddy said on PBS NewsHour he thought Trump considering terminating the special counsel was, "pretty clear by what one of his lawyers said on television recently".

Rosenstein was answering questions from lawmakers regarding comments Monday from Christopher Ruddy, the chief executive of Newsmax Media and a friend of Donald Trump, that Trump might fire Robert Mueller.

Starr's op-ed follows comments he made on CNN's "New Day" Thursday morning in which he said there is now no obstruction of justice case against Trump, based on the evidence that has been made public so far. He said he would agree to dismiss Mueller only if there were a legitimate basis to do so. "While the president has every right to" fire Mr. Mueller, "he has no intention to do so", the White House spokeswoman Sarah Huckabee Sanders told reporters late Tuesday.

The comments come amid increasing frustration at the White House and among Trump supporters that the investigation will overshadow the president's agenda for months to come - a prospect that has Democrats salivating.

Still, it took until Tuesday night for the White House to actually dispute Ruddy's suspicion.

The new Hawaii law creates a state commission to explore strategies the state could adopt toward climate change mitigation and adaptation.

But in this particular case, Attorney General Jeff Sessions has recused himself from anything relating to the Russian Federation investigation.

"Director Mueller is going to have the full degree of independence that he needs to conduct that investigation appropriately", Rosenstein said.

New Hampshire Sen. Jeanne Shaheen, the subcommittee's top Democrat, said she also was "troubled" by Sessions' cancellation.

Spicer had said that Ruddy was at the White House Monday to meet with White House aides, but did not speak with the president.

Trump advisors and conservative pundits including Newt Gingrich and Ann Coulter have called for Mueller's removal. "Ruddy never spoke to the president regarding this issue", Spicer said in a statement.

But Ruddy opened a new line of questions about Mueller's impartiality - the fact that Trump had considered Mueller for the Federal Bureau of Investigation director's job before he was named special counsel.

But people close to Mr. Trump say he is so volatile they can not be sure that he will not change his mind about Mr. Mueller if he finds out anything to lead him to believe the investigation has been compromised. They have tried to highlight the positive reviews he received Wednesday when he made a statesman-like appearance in the White House to address the nation after Rep. Steve Scalise was shot during a congressional baseball practice.

It's all an effort to manufacture news cycles, create conflicts, distract from other pressing issues and raise questions about someone for a couple days.
