One-time Niagara Falls survivor dies after apparent repeat stunt

Kirk Jones, who survived historic Niagara Falls plunge, dies in return 14 years later

The inflatable ball was found empty at the base of the falls, where water gushes at an astonishing 150,000 gallons (567,811 liters) per second.

The 38-year-old outdid her famous husband by hanging by her ankles, toes, and teeth - yes, TEETH - to a hoop attached to a helicopter hovering above Horseshoe Falls, the largest of Niagara's three falls.

The Wallendas said the stunt broke a height record Nik Wallenda set in 2011 when he hung by his teeth 250ft above Silver Dollar City in Branson, Missouri.

According to a contemporary account of the stunt, shortly after the successful attempt was made, Jones told his friends at a rowdy drunken weekend-long party in MI that he was going to try making the unprotected plunge, three weeks previous to the attempt. His family told reporters then that he'd planned it as a daredevil stunt.

She said it was windier above the falls than she had expected, but said it was comforting for her to look up to the helicopter and see her husband inside. He was ordered to pay a $3,000 fine and was subsequently banned from ever attempting the stunt again.

Jones reportedly told his friend he would probably make a lot of money if he was able to do the stunt and survive.

"I understand what I did was wrong", he said after his 2003 court appearance.

Facebook Uses Artificial Intelligence to Fight Terrorism
The company made it clear that it is serious in dealing with the issue, and terrorists should not have a voice on social media.

In the interim, he said, he hoped more people would come visit the area as a result of the publicity afforded his wife's stunt.

Jones, who suffered broken bones and severe bruising, lived to describe his initial harrowing plunge on national TV. The bottom, he said, felt like smashing into a table.

Crews from the Niagara Falls Fire Department and other local public safety agencies spent several hours in the Niagara Gorge on Friday as part of a body recovery operation.

About 200 people watched on shore at Niagara Falls State Park, many with cellphones aloft to capture photos and video of Wallenda, who appeared as a graceful silhouette against the clouds.

He was reportedly set to publish a book about his adventure and a guide on how to survive a daredevil's jump into Niagara Falls with his brother, Keith.

Jones, 53, had recently been living in Spring Hill, Fla., according to public records.
