Lawsuit: Trump violated constitution with foreign hotel stays

ABC News reports an advisory was sent out by D.C. Attorney General Karl A. Racine and Maryland Attorney General Brian Frosh on Sunday indicating they planned to "announce a major lawsuit" against Trump at noon Monday.

The lawsuit would be the first related to Trump's business interests brought by government entities.

Since taking power in January, Trump has turned day to day control over his real estate empire and other assets to his adult sons, but not sold them off as many in America said he should to avoid conflicts of interest. In April, documents reviewed by ProPublica demonstrated that the president may continue to receive payments from the trust at his discretion. The case would likely end up before the Supreme Court and the president's lawyers could explain why his returns should not be made public, Frosh and Racine told the Post.

And as Forbes points out in its report, "Altruism as a business-development strategy isn't necessarily illegal". Overall, he added , the foundation's efforts have yielded 'over $16.3 million dollars for the children of St.

The lawsuit is expected to be filed with the US District Court for the District of Maryland. The first was filed in January by Citizens for Responsibility and Ethics in Washington, a D.C. -based watchdog group. Each, however, faces legal hurdles over standing to sue the president.

President Donald Trump waits to speak during the National Peace Officers Memorial Service on the West Lawn of the U.S. Capitol in Washington, D.C., May 15, 2017. The government also said Trump hotel revenue does not fit the definition of an improper payment under the constitution.

The Embassy of Kuwait held an event at the hotel after initially booking at the Four Seasons.
