Comey to Testify Before Senate Intel on June 8

Former FBI Director James Comey will have his day before a Senate committee next week - and he's ready to talk about Trump and Russian Federation.

Ousted FBI Director James Comey will testify June 8 before the Senate intelligence committee as part of its ongoing investigation into Russia's alleged interference in the 2016 elections.

According to U.S. media reports, Comey is likely to tell the lawmakers that he was asked by Trump not to go ahead of the FBI investigations against Michael Flynn, the former national security advisor to Trump.

The Senate Intelligence Committee said on May 19 that Comey, who was sacked by Trump 10 days earlier, would testify before the panel publicly at some point after Monday's Memorial Day holiday.

Comey, who was involved in a similar investigation into possible Russian meddling at the Justice Department, is expected to provide information to the intelligence committee - including conversations he had with President Donald Trump.

Meanwhile, Senators Patrick Leahy and Al Franken released a letter that they had written to Comey requesting an Federal Bureau of Investigation inquiry into Attorney General Sessions' testimony before the Senate judiciary committee and his contacts with Russian officials.

CBS News confirms that Special Counsel Robert Mueller has cleared former FBI Director James Comey to testify before Congress.

Trump's White House team, seemingly understanding the political and legal peril that Comey's testimony presents, have officially stopped talking.

Mueller's separate probe could conceivably look at the circumstances surrounding Comey's firing.

A number of congressional committees, in addition to the Senate intelligence panel, are also looking into the matter.

Subpoenas were approved Wednesday for Flynn and his company, Flynn Intel Group, and Cohen and his firm, Michael D. Cohen & Associates.

Mr Flynn is one of several Trump associates who are drawing scrutiny in a series of probes about Russian Federation and last year's election.

Congress is now out of session.

Russian President Vladimir Putin on Thursday again denied state involvement in any U.S. election cyber-attacks, but admitted "patriotically minded" hackers might have been involved.

The president blasted the probes online as a 'witch hunt, ' in just his latest attack on the investigations.
