Trump pushes for Mideast peace, but avoids thorny details

10000 Israeli police and counterterrorism officials to secure Trump visit

The White House-driven effort is a sharp shift from the practice of previous USA administrations that typically gave secretaries of state those responsibilities.

"This is President Trump's first visit outside the USA, and the honor is ours that he has chosen to come to Jerusalem, the capital of Israel, and - of course - to the State of Israel", Netanyahu said Sunday morning at the start of the weekly Cabinet meeting.

The Israeli part of his visit then resumes with a 1 p.m. wreath-laying ceremony at the Yad Vashem Holocaust museum.

The Western Wall, the holiest site where Jews can pray, is located in east Jerusalem, which was occupied by Israel in 1967 and later annexed in a move never recognised by the global community.

Israeli media reported the package includes economic concessions and opening the border crossing between the West Bank and Jordan 24 hours a day.

Earlier on Monday, aboard Air Force One en route to Israel, US Secretary of State Rex Tillerson also addressed the alleged leak in a briefing to reporters.

"We look forward to receiving President Trump and we want to work with you and with the president these coming years to strengthen our great alliance". Trump has also retreated from a campaign pledge to move the U.S. Embassy in Israel from Tel Aviv to Jerusalem, bending to the same diplomatic and security concerns as other presidents who have made similar promises.

A senior USA administration official told Reuters last week that Trump remained committed to his campaign pledge to ultimately relocate the embassy but did not plan to announce such a move while on his trip. "I can tell you that the Palestinians are ready to reach for peace", Trump said.

The president will discuss bilateral relations and Israeli-Palestinian conflict with both leaders separately.

New Haven officials aren't anxious about the short-term estimates. "We're not going backwards anymore - we've stopped that". According to a spokesperson, 50,000 is the population where the Census Bureau is required to track data of a city.

Trump will arrive in Israel today and meet Netanyahu.

Having insisted that he was capable of striking the "ultimate deal" for peace between Palestinians and Israelis, Trump made no mention of a two-state solution, which has always been considered internationally as the preferred solution but which Israel's right-wing government has publicly begun to shy away from.

His first stop will be the Church of the Holy Sepulchre, built at the site where Christians believe Jesus was crucified, buried and resurrected.

And on the eve of Trump's visit, an Israeli official said Mr Netanyahu's cabinet has approved confidence building measures with the Palestinians, including allowing building in a West Bank area.

Israel considers the entire city to be its capital.

"But we need two willing parties", he said.

Members of Netanyahu's coalition government have expressed their concerns that entering new peace talks would force Israel to give up territory and curtail construction in West Bank settlements.

Most foreign nations' embassies in Israel, including that of the USA since 1966, are in Tel Aviv. President Trump underscored the United States' ironclad commitment to Israel's security, including to the maintenance of Israel's Qualitative Military Edge.

"The wall is part of Jerusalem", he said, declaring only an undeniable fact accepted by all sides.
