Google Chrome is coming to VR with Google's latest Daydream update

Google is about to take the wraps off its answer to Facebook's Oculus

Later in the year, the two devices will be receiving an update that makes them compatible with Daydream, Google's mobile virtual reality (VR) platform. The new platform is now on the works and the new VR is scheduled to come out later this year via HTC and Lenovo.

Both HTC and Lenovo are expected to release their standalone VR headsets sometime later this year, for a price roughly in the same range as the current HTC Vive and Oculus Rift VR. Key to the design is what Google calls "World Sense", which means the headsets can monitor the environment and accurately track your position without the need for extra sensors.

"We're already at a point where millions of people are beginning to enjoy some of what these new developments can offer, but it's early days", he said, using a phrase popular with Google executives trying to rein in expectations.

Why looking tired could kill your social appeal
Because we've evolved to try to avoid diseases, seeing an unhealthy-looking face makes us want to avoid that person. It can even put people off socialising with you, reports the BBC .

Google's annual Google I/O developer conference kicks off this week and ahead of the event whispers have emerged that the firm plans to unwrap a standalone VR headset. "Getting into VR is as easy as picking the thing up". They are free-form and wireless, yet still capable of providing full 360 degree tracking using what Google calls WorldSense.

Nothing can snap you out of an immersive virtual reality (VR) experience faster than tripping over a cord, which is why VR companies have been scrambling to develop wireless systems. WorldSense headsets come with self-contained software, including everything they need to operate without a phone or PC. Google VP for VR, Clay Bavor announced the next flagship of LG will support the Google VR headset. Tango was used in the creation of WorldSense and it also backs Google's new Visual Positioning Service (VPS). VPS works today in partner museums and select Lowe's stores. Google made it clear that this positional tracking works without users having to install any external sensors.

Yes, folks. While you're in your VR universe, you'll be able to search web pages, visit your bookmarks, and even view WebVR content via actual Google Chrome.
