Fox News' Guilfoyle up for White House press secretary job

A journalist looks at a copy of President Trump's termination letter to FBI Director James B. Comey in the Brady Briefing Room of the White House on Tuesday

"Then that would have been the big story as opposed to the inauguration", Trump said.

But even those who had been critical of Comey expressed suspicion over the timing of Comey's firing. The Washington Post reported that Spicer "huddled with his staff near a clump of bushes and then behind a tall hedge" on the White House grounds to avoid reporters.

People close to the administration tell the New York Times Trump doesn't have a close working relationship with Spicer and has been less than secretive about his intentions to possibly replace him. So he rides his podium to Trump Tower in New York City to convince Trump not to fire him.

Trump asserted that his communications department couldn't keep up with him because he was "moving so quickly". By week's end, he was musing about cutting back on the White House's televised press briefings.

"The president should immediately provide any such recordings to Congress or admit, once again, to have made a deliberately misleading - and in this case threatening - statement".

The president represented himself in an interview with Jeanine Pirro that aired on Fox News on Saturday evening, in one of the few shows to secure any comment from the White House over the weekend about the previous week's events.

Curry meanwhile had nothing but praise for Warriors youngster McCaw, who filled in for the injured Andre Iguodala with 18 points. Meanwhile, Jonathon Simmons, who started in place of Leonard, led the Spurs with 22 points and shot 8-of-17 from the floor.

SPICER: I think - I said - I was very clear that the president would have nothing further on that last week. Trump and his staffers have refused to explain those remarks, and they became part of the political cloud that has overshadowed the White House ever since Comey was sacked as FBI Director.

"Let's say I did it on January 20, the opening, right?"

White House officials had hoped last week's House vote would give the president a much-needed burst of momentum and infuse new energy into efforts to fully overhaul the "Obamacare" health law and pass a massive tax reform package.

However, when asked whether Spicer would be his press secretary in future, Trump responded with a noncommittal: "Yeah well he's been there from the beginning".

"That's, frankly, offensive", Spicer said.
