Person dies of Ebola virus in Congo - Health Ministry

An Ebola epidemic has been declared in the northeast region of the Democratic Republic of Congo

The 2014 outbreak in DRC was unconnected to the epidemic in West Africa, which killed thousands and became the worst Ebola outbreak on record.

In a televised address, DRC's health minister, Oly Ilunga Kalenga, warned that the outbreak was a "national health emergency with global significance" but urged people "not to panic".

After the 2014-15 epidemic, the World Health Organization response team concluded that the risk of human infection remained unpredictable, meaning that future outbreaks were possible, but that large epidemics could be prevented with a rapid response.

According to World Health Organization, 9 suspected cases of Ebola have been reported in the Likati district since April 22, 2017, and 3 deaths are said to be attributed to the virus.

"People are constantly coming and going across the border to visit friends and family, so we are taking very urgent preventative measures to contain the risk".

DHS to brief airline reps, lawmakers as laptop ban expansion is considered
Royal Jordanian said in March that cellphones and medical devices were excluded from the ban. Britain hastily followed suit with restrictions on a slightly different set of routes.

This confirmation came from tests on nine people who came down with a hemorrhagic fever in Bas-Uele province on or after April 22, the statement said. "We always take this very seriously", the WHO's Congo spokesman, Eugene Kabambi, said. This latest Ebola outbreak is Congo's eighth, the most of any country.

Ebola killed more than 11,300 people and infected some 28,600 as it swept through Guinea, Sierra Leone and Liberia from 2013, causing alarm around the world. Out of the three deaths, one tested positive for Ebola.

The disease was first identified in 1976.

Ebola is a fast-spreading virus and fatal in 90 percent of cases as there's no specific treatment.
