Minnesota Vikings take chance on Michael Floyd

Michael Floyd Agrees to 1-Year Contract with Vikings After Brief Patriots Stint

Floyd is now on house arrest in Arizona as part of the sentence he received February 17. He ended up being claimed by the New England Patriots and winning a championship, although he was inactive for both the Super Bowl and AFC Championship Game.

He is now on house arrest, but wide receiver Michael Floyd is ready to contribute in 2017 after signing Wednesday with the Minnesota Vikings.

Floyd became an unrestricted in March and likely will face a league suspension of at least two games as a result of his guilty plea.

So if the 27-year-old receiver catches on to the Vikings' offense and gains the trust of his new quarterback, Floyd could have a permanent role on the outside that would allow Diggs and Thielen to line up all over the field.

Zurich Classic: Smith and Blixt outlast Kisner and Brown in Monday play-off
Blixt, Kisner, and Brown all played safely and found the short stuff with their second shots and Smith found a green side bunker. He was not the first Australian on the receiving end of a final-hole dagger at the New Orleans Classic.

"We have offered Michael the full support and assistance of the Minnesota Vikings organization and our player development programs", Vikings general manager Rick Spielman said in a statement. Floyd had also received a DUI when in college at Notre Dame. If Floyd can turn his career 50 percent of what Carter did, he'll have one heck of a comeback. He recorded 59 receptions for 1,247 yards and 17 touchdowns as a senior.

The Cardinals cut Floyd late in the 2016 season. He was born in St. Paul and attended high school at St. Paul's Cretin-Derham Hall High School.

"He is very quick in and out of his breaks, he has good acceleration, he's a good stop and start guy, I think he's going to be a good player", head coach Mike Zimmer said at the end of last season.

The Vikings 6-foot-2, 215-pound receiver played in just nine games and caught one pass for 15 yards in his rookie season, and could find himself competing with Floyd in training camp for first-team reps.
