South Africa's ANC accuses judiciary of pandering to opposition

Some of the MPs sworn in as MPs in the National

The North Gauteng High Court in Pretoria on Thursday ruled that Jacob Zuma should explain the reason for his March 30 cabinet reshuffle that created a lot of furore.

.

The ruling party on Friday said that the ruling by Judge Bashier Vally in the Pretoria court was a clear case of judicial interference in matters of the executive.

While Mr Zuma might try to appeal Thursday's ruling, legal experts say his chances of success are slim.

Zuma argued he was exercising his powers in terms of section 91 (2) of the Constitution of the Republic of South Africa.

The DA welcomed the court ruling, saying "it's high time that those in power and especially the president, are held accountable for their actions".

"To read into the Constitution that the president must explain himself on the composition of the National Executive to the opposition, is to use the judiciary to police political decisions and sets a very worrisome precedent".

The ANC said in a statement that the appointment of ministers and deputies, as well as reshuffling of the cabinet, was "a discretionary and political decision of the president".

Hit by NASCAR penalty, Logano says team doesn't cheat
Per the NASCAR penalty report the No. 22 did not adhere to Section 20.14.3., Truck Trailing Arm Spacers/Pinion Angle Shims. Gordon, meanwhile, said a part was about 1/32 of an inch off during the post-race inspection.

The main opposition Democratic Alliance had filed the court application.

The reshuffle prompted worldwide rating agencies Standard & Poor's and Fitch to downgrade South Africa's sovereign credit to junk status in April.

He has so far not given any specific reasons for removing Gordhan and replacing him with new Finance Minister Malusi Gigaba.

On the other hand, if Zuma denies that he used the report, that would strongly suggest that he separately lied to at least the ANC and the SACP about his reasons for the Cabinet reshuffle.

Speaking at the World Economic Forum (WEF) on Africa, Zuma was responding to a question from the floor on how young people can play a bigger role in decision making.

Selfe said the DA believes that Zuma's decision should be set aside as it does not meet the requirements of rationality and was therefore illegal.
